Frequently Asked Questions

  • Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a primary care model that gives you direct access to your doctor at an affordable monthly cash price. The practice does not utilize or bill insurance, so there are no surprises, co-pays, or deductibles. The patient panel of a DPC is about 20 percent of the patient panel in a fee-for-service practice. This allows the physician to spend more time with the patients, have same day or next day appointment availabilities, and have more time to concentrate on the patients concerns, creating a strong patient-physician relationship. In addition, a DPC acts similar to an urgent care.

  • Although we do not take insurance, we do believe having a high deductible plan, such as a catastrophic plan, would be beneficial to account for medical emergencies such as surgeries or long hospital stays. Empower MD will cover care for chronic disease, sick visits and most procedures that are covered under your membership as described in the services section. Patients have the option of using their insurance for labs, imaging, and medication; however, our prices will likely be more affordable and transparent.

  • Labs and imaging will be done third party at the nearest lab/imaging center. Labs and imaging will be followed up with your physician.

Most medications will be provided in-house at a discounted cash price by the provider.

  • Whenever possible, we will do our best to take care of your health needs without specialty referral. However, we do understand that specialist referral is sometimes necessary. We will work with specialists in the local area to negotiate cash prices for consultation/services. Additionally, there may also be an option to seek specialty care through your insurance plan.

  • Initial visits for Functional Medicine start at two hours. With functional medicine, the physician needs more time dive into the patient’s history, lifestyle, diet, and other factors that play into investigating health concerns in a holistic manner.

  • Each patient will have access to the doctor by email or phone, and will receive a response as quickly as possible, typically within 1 business day. Late night/weekend texts or calls will be managed according to the doctor’s availability and cannot be guaranteed.

  • In 2025, official orders were approved to give patients the option to use their HSA account to pay for their Direct Primary Care membership. For further details, please consult with your HSA company.

  • No, we welcome consultations and one-time visits. You will not pay a registration fee for these visits. There is simply a one-time, up-front transparent price for the visit.

  • At any point during your membership, we ask for 30 days notice to cancel your membership. The initial registration fee is non-refundable. A one time consultation fee or initial consultation fee for functional medicine is also non-refundable.

  • Once a membership is cancelled, you are welcome to rejoin if there is space available on our patient panel. To re-join, a patient will be required to pay the initial registration fee for conventional and functional medicine options.
